Why is it so shocking and surprising that Mel Gibson made an anti-semitic comment? I don't think he should be held to any higher standards of moral decency than anyone else in the world, and there are plenty of bigots out there (I'm related to some of them) screaming about the Jews, the blacks, the Mexicans, the gays, etc. He just happens to be a movie star, so when he said it, it made news.

I don't think what he said is ok. Not at all. But, in America, he's allowed to think whatever stupid ignorant thing he wants. Hopefully, people will stop yelling about what a pig he is, and just stop going to his movies. Because that would hurt him more than anything (personally, when he became a preachy blowhard when "Passion Of The Christ" came out, I decided to stop going to his movies).

I'm surprised at how people are so upset, yet I think A LOT of the people running this country probably feel along the same lines Mel does (hi, rich, white conservative guys!). Do you think any of the country clubs politicians belong to let Jews in? Blacks? Homosexuals? Probably not. Yet, no one's boycotting them at election time. I don't understand.

I also have to wonder if his comments would have been so inflammatory if they were aimed at another group. If he said Muslims caused all the wars, would Hollywood be screaming to boycott all of his films?

I feel wrong even posting this, because it makes me look like I support him.
